About the Organizers



Indian Society of Agricultural Information Technology (INSAIT) (http://insait.in)

The INSAIT professional society was launched at Dharwad, India in the year 2000 with the following objectives:

  • To mobilize farmers, scientists, institutions and organizations to promote agricultural IT.

  • To encourage teaching, research and extension activities in all aspects of agricultural IT.

  • To provide a forum for information exchange and dissemination of agricultural information technology.

  • To organize training programs and conventions and publish scientific information through different media for the benefit of the farming community.

The INSAIT has organized two national conferences and one International Conference, since its inception in the year 2000. The first national conference on Agro-Informatics was organized in June 2001, at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad and the second national conference on Agro-Informatics and Precision Farming was organized in December 2009 at UAS, Raichur. The fifth International Conference of the Asian Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture (AFITA), Japan was organized by INSAIT in November 2006 at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The AIPA 2012 conference is the third national conference which is being organized in Hyderabad in collaboration with IIIT, Hyderabad and University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur.


International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H), India (http://www.iiit.ac.in)

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) is an autonomous university founded in 1998. IIIT-H was set up as a research university which focuses on the core areas of Information Technology, such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, and their applications in other domains. The institute evolved strong research programmes in a host of areas, with computation or IT providing the connecting thread, and with an emphasis on the development of technology and applications, which can be transferred for use to industry and society. IIIT-H facilitates research in core areas of computer science and electronics and communications engineering. In addition, it facilitates inter-disciplinary research by extending IT into agriculture, bio-informatics, language technologies, building sciences and so on. The IT for agriculture and rural development research center at IIIT-H is investigating how the developments in information and communication technologies can improve the performance of the services in agriculture. The center is investigating the issues in building ICTs-based advisory systems in the areas of agriculture, aqua-culture, livestock, and agro-meteorology systems for a better farming. As a result of investigation, the eSagu system (IT-based Personalized Agro-advisory System), Village-level eSagu system (Location and crop-specific advisory system) and the eAgromet system (IT-based Agro-mateorological System) are being developed.


University of Agriculture Sciences Raichur (UASR), India (http://www.uasraichur.edu.in)

The University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur was established in 2009 to gratify the needs of robust agricultural education, research and extension activities for sustainable growth of agriculture sector and to enhance the livelihood of farming community. Under its jurisdiction, the university has three agricultural colleges each at Raichur, Bheemarayanagudi and Gulbarga, and an agricultural engineering college at Raichur. It has 11 research stations, 5 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and 4 Agricultural Extension Education Centres to cater to the needs of the farming community of the Hyderabad - Karnataka region. The College of Agriculture, Raichur, situated in north-eastern dry zone of Karnataka, was established in the year 1984. Over the past 25 years, good infrastructure facilities have been created for teaching, research and extension and it is the first Institution in Asia conferred with the ISO Certification (ISO 9001:2008) for education in Agriculture. The university has earned good reputation because of its proud graduates and post-graduates who have excelled not only in agriculture but also in public, private and banking sectors. The University has to its credit release of more than 250 technologies from its jurisdiction in the past 20 years in crop production, crop protection, breeding etc. which are quite popular across the country. University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur is presently acting as a lead centre to guide and monitor the activities under state government funded precision farming project in Karnataka since 2011. University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur shall pursue the needs of Agricultural Education to sensitize the farming community with scientific innovations and outreaching the technologies to uplift the socio-economic status of the farming community through strong Research Extension linkages with "Greening the life of farming community through Education, Research and Extension" as a motto.
